The program, based on a period of four days, provides various interactive experiences – specifically designed for blind people, consisting of informal but informational oral descriptions and tactile support materials. Thanks to these methods, we will cover different topics, such as: Venezia layout and districts, its day-to-day life, names of places, the important connection with the lagoon, tradition, etc.
The whole trip will be combined with a real exploration of the town, of its masterpieces, but also of its less known and crowded places, walking around touching, hearing and, why not, tasting.
Of course, in our program, we will not miss out the symbolic places of Venice: San Marco Square and its Basilica, il Palazzo Ducale (The Doge’s Palace), the Rialto Bridge, the Customs Point, the fish market, the Venice Lido, the Jewish Ghetto; all of them will be find…with other eyes!
Thanks to several partnerships with associations, which fight to preserve the assets of local tradition and heritage, we offer a breath-taking experience: after an historical and a technical overview of traditional rowboats, which are fully accessible, participants will be invited to get on board for an exciting trip through Venice canals.
…And for the most adventurous people in the group, it will be possible to give a try with the traditional and fascinating art of Venetian rowing (with a single rower, standing on “the stern” of the boat).
We have started a collaboration for a workshop with “La Bottega dei Mascareri”, an Atelier owned by a family, which has been creating and painting masks for generations.
Together we will explore an interactive workshop that will help us, first of all, to understand the tradition and the history of the Venetian masks and, afterwards, the techniques involved in making them.
The masks, and Murano’s little horses are the most well-known products of Venezia.
We will get a hands-on experience with this Atelier which created a cultural organization, aiming to preserve and protect this ancient art.
Coffee is an art, a tradition (very important to many people!) which has a solid historical background here in Venezia. We’ll visit the “Torrefazione Cannaregio”, a coffee roaster laboratory and after a coffee lesson, based on the blending process, we’ll have the opportunity to explore by touching a coffee roasting machine of the first half of the 20th Century, still in working condition and used daily. We will be able to appreciate the various characteristics (textures, taste) of different blends, through a free coffee tasting and we will experience the delicate and important process of roasting the coffee beans.
We have created and designed, together with glassmaker masters artisans from the “Glass School of Murano” and with the artist Marco Curatolo, a tactile and fully accessible workshop to understand the delicate art of glass-blowing.
This workshop will introduce to all different stages, starting from the white-hot incandescent substance until the final object.
All the participants will learn about tools, techniques, the furnace and the particular conditions, in which the glassmaker masters work in! They will also be protagonists, being able to practice their own skill of glass-blowing!
