Siena is one of the most famous, fascinating and well preserved cities of Italy, but not everyone knows the true origins of its urban configuration, which most likely refers to the starry vault.
We propose two interesting experiences in this city: a walk to discover its secrets and origin, and a visit-workshop to draw and capture its picturesque streets.
Siena City of Stars:
A new and original interpretation of the city
A new vision and a brand new itinerary for exploring the secrets of the city of Siena
Siena boasts a centuries-old heritage made of mysterious stories and characters with legendary contours. Through an innovative view of the city new itineraries were planned to discover stories and secrets hidden in unexpected places: its mysteries.
We propose an original path, full of meaning, to explore what appear to be the last secrets of Siena: a city where tradition and innovation coexist harmoniously.
The itineraries have been traced following the analysis carried out by Arch. Mario Tassoni which revealed and discovered the close relationship between urban structure and celestial disposition. The architect, archaeoastronomy scholar, has brought to light, through the book “Siena, the city of the stars” published by”the Holm” in 2014, a maze of figures and ancestral symbols, remained buried in time, that ruled and guided the urban development of the historical city.
Mario Tassoni will guide you to the discovery of the city of Siena strolling among its characteristic alleys and the territories of the contrade, retracing the steps
that led him to achieve this extraordinary discovery. A route between philosophy, history, astronomy, art and folklore.
Along the way, the story will be enriched with anecdotes and explanations about the Palio, explaining the meaning of emblems and coats of arms of the Districts, interpreting the design of their territories and baptismal fountains, identifying the arrangement and alignment of buildings, churches, oratories, ports and roads: precise points that, if unified, form the pattern of an astronomical phenomenon, that makes Siena the stone custodian of the laws of the universe.
